About Shelby
Shelby Arnold is a horn player originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina, but currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. Shelby strives to create a positive environment for students and musicians everywhere.
Shelby is an active educator, performer, and learner. Shelby is currently at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, pursuing their Master’s in Horn Performance, and serves as the graduate assistant for the horn studio. Shelby primarily works in the horn studio, assisting in rehearsals, lessons, and various school of music jobs and tasks. In addition, Shelby teaches and performs in North and South Carolina.
Shelby has performed in various ensembles throughout their musical journey. Including: The Appalachian Symphony Band, The Appalachian Wind Ensemble, The Appalachian Symphony Orchestra, The Appalachian State Marching Mountaineers, The Appalachian State Horn Choir, The Appalachian State Brass Choir, the Steely Pan Steel Band, and the Blue Iron Steel Band. Not only does Shelby prioritize their horn playing, but they also play steel pan as a secondary instrument. Their primary instrument is 6 Bass, but they also enjoy playing double seconds and tenor pans. Steel band inspired them to prioritize understanding how to incorporate multicultural works and ensembles in the classroom and in their personal playing.
Shelby received their Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education and a Performance certificate in Spring 2026 at Appalachian State University, where they studied with Dr. Dakota Corbliss.
Shelby is also an alumnae member of Sigma Alpha Iota-International Music Fraternity. They were initiated into the Epsilon Theta chapter in Spring 2023 and joined the Alumnae Association in Fall 2025.
Shelby deeply prioritizes individual growth and understanding the value in each educational journey and strives to do the same in their personal studies.
